Enjoying an Industrial Visit Whilst on industrial visits, children often have the opportunity to join in with 'real' (and safe!) activities on the site. This may be around the plant, or in the company's laboratories or workshops. Site staff are always keen for the children's experiences to be both informative and enjoyable. Dressing up in the right 'gear' makes the activity feel more authentic, as well as providing the necessary safety. |
What Colour Is Black ? Apparatus: Black marker pen, filter paper, syringe or pipette. Method:Make a 5mm diameter [circle] of black ink in the centre of the filter paper.
Carefully put one drop of water on the centre of the circle. Prediction: I predicted that all the inks would be all the same colour, yellow blue and purple. |
This is a piece of written work produced for the topic, "Colour" |

Results 1 drop: spreading out, still black 2 drops: becoming yellow around black 3 drops: same but spreading out Explanation: Our results show that there is not just one colour in black but lots of colours. The Berol dry-wipe and the dry-wipe pens did not dissolve because it was proper black ink. |
Evaluation: My predictions were right on the permanent marker but not on the rest. Implications for Industry: |
With many thanks to class teacher Pam Bell of East Ardsley Primary School, Wakefield, for permission to display this work by one of her children. |
